Flat roof replacement will save your ‘Grand Design’

Posted by Clare Whitehall on Jun 21, 2017

Moved into a house that needs some work and have big plans for that ageing flat roofed extension?  Before installing bi-fold doors to open up the living space onto the garden, or putting in skylights, first you need a high quality fix for your flat roof.

There is no point spending any money on transforming an old flat roofed extension unless you have ensured that it is structurally sound. Any leaks or obvious damage to the roof need to be addressed now so you don’t suffer water damage later on.

Signs that your flat roof needs replacing are:

  • Splits or holes in the roofing material
  • Stains are appearing on the ceiling internally
  • The roofing material has previously been repaired and cannot be further patched up
  • Ponding is occurring on the roof
  • The roof is covered in moss

We recommend a RubberBond™ EPDM FleeceBack™ roof

You may be aware of some of the options available when replacing your flat roof, such as felt or fibreglass, but for the best possible result we recommend a RubberBond™ EPDM FleeceBack™ installation that is proven to last over 50 years.

Not only is this the best and most reliable way to replace a decomposing flat roof, it also looks aesthetically pleasing. The sleek black FleeceBack EPDM rubber roof enhances the look of your extension. It has a real ‘wow’ factor that will increase the value of the property.

Many people have heard of FleeceBack EPDM as it is a favoured material used by modern house designers – it is often used in major refurbishment projects seen on TV shows such as Grand Designs.

This is because it has unbeatable resistance to weather, wind and sun, designed and proven as it is to outlast conventional flat roofing materials. It repels all moisture and does not suffer with age from cracking or crazing making it perfect for all flat roofs including replacing existing roofs or for use with extensions and new builds.  It can also be used as the waterproof membrane for green roofs which are becoming more and more popular due to their insulating properties and positive impact on the environment.

You can even add skylights to FleeceBack EPDM flat roofs, so there is no need to compromise on style when securing the future stability of your flat roof. Once this work has been carried out an ageing extension can be turned into a desirable, modern family room that benefits from great lighting and even bi-fold doors. Many people who do this work go on to use a formally ignored room as their main living area.
