Transform you Conservatory Roof and Stay Compliant with new Part L Regulations

Posted by Clare Whitehall on Jul 29, 2022

Do you want to be able to use your conservatory all year round and reduce the cost of heating and cooling? If that's the case, then a solid roof conservatory replacement may be the perfect option for you!

There are many different systems on the market for you to consider but, at Projects4Roofing we recommend (and use) the Guardian Warm Roof. After many years of installing replacement conservatory roofs we have found that the Guardian system is hard to beat! To top this off, it is one of only a handful of products that meets the new Part L Regulations applicable on all replacement conservatory roofs from 16th June 2022.

What is the Part L Regulations I hear you shout?

Part L is a Building Regulation that relates to energy efficiency, setting the standards for energy performance and carbon emissions in new and existing buildings. Performance is measured by the level of Thermal transmittance, also known as U-value. The U-value is the rate of transfer of heat through a structure (which can be a single material or a composite), divided by the difference in temperature across that structure. The units of measurement are W/m²K. The better-insulated a structure is, the slower the heat will transmit through the material and the lower the U-value will be.

When replacing your conservatory roof, Building Regulations must always be sought. It is the homeowner's responsibility to ensure the standards are met.
The new Part L Regulations state that when transforming your conservatory after 16th June 2022, you will need to ensure the replacement roof achieves a U Value of 0.15W/m²K. This is a 16.6% thermal improvement from the old U Value of 0.18W/m²K.

Unlike many of its competitors Guardian have been working to ensure their roof meets the new standards by upgrading the thickness of insulation to 160mm on all their solid replacement conservatory roofs to achieve a U Value of 0.145W/m²K.

The upside to Part L Regulations

While Part L is a legal requirement, there are benefits to managing the U Values when it comes to your home. Let's walk you through some of them!

By investing in high-quality insulation your home will be even more energy efficient, which can help you significantly save on energy and heating bills, and also improve your quality of life.

Furthermore installing an insulated Guardian Warm Roof can also add some significant value to your home, which makes it a great investment for anyone looking to sell their home in the future.

Additionally, if you would like to remove the doors between your conservatory and home, to create an open plan living space, the improved thermal efficiency of the Guardian Warm Roof will help to maintain an ambient temperature throughout.
