If you’ve been thinking about your conservatory roof replacement project for a little while, you’re probably full of excitement about the ways you can use your new room when the project is completed.
You’ve done your research, you know that a solid conservatory roof is the best decision for you. You’re almost ready to go ahead with the project - but there’s just the question of timing.
When is best to book your conservatory roof replacement to avoid weather-related delays?
Some might think summer is the best time to install your solid conservatory roof, as the project might be completed more quickly, causing less disruption to your home and your daily life.
But summer is the time you want to be enjoying your conservatory to its fullest extent.
The good news is that conservatory roof replacement projects can be delivered successfully and on schedule throughout the year.
At Projects4Roofing, we provide our customers with a clear day-by-day schedule so you can understand the process, timeframes, and what is likely to happen each day we’re working on your conservatory roof replacement.
Of course, there may be some weather conditions that might extend the length of your project by a day or two, but this is often a tiny inconvenience for a comfortable, insulated conservatory that you can enjoy for years to come.
In this post, we’ll run through the three common weather conditions that might cause short delays to your project.
Rain on the first day of installation
On the first day of your conservatory roof replacement project, one of our most important tasks is to remove your outdated glass or polycarbonate roof and replace it with your solid conservatory roof.
During the process of removing your old roof and putting your new roof structure in place, there’s going to be a short period of time when your conservatory has no roof. This means there will be a temporary period where the inside of your conservatory is exposed to the elements.
The last thing we’d want is rain falling down directly into your conservatory.
With this in mind, our installation team will keep a close eye on the weather forecast and the elements on the day that your installation is due to begin.
If there is heavy rain or a high risk of rain on the first day of your installation, our team will recommend postponing the start of the project until the next suitable day.
Cold weather while tiling
When it comes to the tiling of your new solid conservatory roof, our team of specialists will be keeping an eye on the temperature.
Extremely cold weather can be a hazard to the safety of our team, and this isn’t something we’re willing to compromise.
At Projects4Roofing, we're known for delivering high-quality, long-lasting solid conservatory roofs. We pride ourselves on the quality of our work and offer a 20-year installation warranty with a 10 year product warranty on all of our conservatory roof replacement projects.
If the temperature is too low to ensure a high-quality result on the day of your conservatory roof tiling, we'll reschedule until conditions are more favourable.
We’re also a company that cares passionately about the safety of our workers. Working on rooftops during freezing, slippery conditions are against our safe working policies.
If our team of roofing specialists is facing dangerous conditions, this may also delay your project until the weather is more appropriate.
Winter season and the plastering process
When you receive your schedule of work for your Projects4Roofing conservatory replacement project, you’ll notice that day 5 is designated for plastering. Day 6 (and occasionally day 7) is set aside to allow the plaster to dry naturally.
For the plaster to dry optimally, it is essential for the indoor temperature of your conservatory to be in the range of 18°C to 25°C.
During the depths of winter, the temperature inside your conservatory may not be within this ideal range.
If this is the case, we might need to allow an extra day or two for the plaster to dry before we complete your second fix electrics and have our installations manager provide a sign-off on your conservatory roof replacement project.
You might be tempted to turn up the radiators or bring in a portable heater to help get the temperature up. But plaster dries best naturally and with plenty of ventilation, so keep the windows ajar.
Using too much artificial heat can remove moisture from the air and lead to cracks in your fresh plaster. This isn’t what you want in the interior of your brand-new conservatory!
Get your conservatory transformed before winter begins
You might have noticed that a lot of the potential delays in conservatory roof replacement projects are down to the cold, the frost, and the rain - weather you might typically associate with late autumn and winter.
If you want the best chance of us completing your conservatory transformation project without any weather-related delays, spring and summer months are usually your safest time to get started.
But winter projects are entirely feasible (we complete a lot of them!) - you might just need to be prepared for the occasional delay to the proposed schedule.
The majority of our conservatory roof replacement projects are completed within 8 working days. We can often deliver the conservatory of your dreams in a little over a week.
